Harrison Butler Bogle

Fairwind is a Harrison Butler Bogle class built in Barton on Humber in 1935. The design was drawn up in 1933 by Dr Harrison Butler for the Little Ship Club. Fairwind is one of 6 boats built to this design and has sailed to Russia and the Baltic, the Friesian Islands, and the South and East coasts of the UK. Harrison Butler was famed for using the Metacentric Principal of hull balance, and as a result Fairwind is a delight to sail, and holds her canvas well, yet is still light on the helm.
Her sister ship is Tradewind, which was sailed across the Atlantic and is now kept in America.
Fairwind is a 25 foot Bermudan Cutter. The owner has had her for over twenty years and she has been looked after by the Aldeburgh Boat Yard and the owner all that time. She has a Volvo Penta diesel engine reconditioned about 6 yrs ago and working well. Last year £12,000 was spent repairing stem post, renewing pintles for rudder, and renewing cockpit. She had new bronze keel bolts about 10 yrs ago and the mast was taken back to bare wood last year. She has a Quantum mainsail, with staysail and roller jib from Suffolk Sails. She has masthead VHF and masthead nav lights. She is very strongly built and a great sea boat. Planking is pitch pine on oak frames with a mahogany coach roof. She is a much-loved, beautiful and sea-friendly boat. The owner has the original bill of sale from when she was built, as well as letters from various owners. Now looking for a good home for her.
Currently Fairwind is in commission for the season and is on a swinging mooring on the River Alde,

'Jill' Tumlare no. 26

Here is a rare opportunity to buy a very exciting boat! She has had all the main structural work to her hull and deck completed to a very high standard, and now needs finishing off to be an exciting and beautiful classic yacht!

'Jill' is Tumlare no. 26, and is one of the batch of six Tumlaren that were the first of their class to come the UK, arriving at the Aldeburgh Yacht Club in 1935.

In Uffa Fox's Second Book, written in 1935, he described the Tumlare as 'a very advanced type of cruiser, in fact I should think she is the most advanced in the world ...'

'Jill' was built in Sweden to a high standard in Hjalmar Johannsen's yard in Gothenburg in 1935 using only very fine materials, and to illustrate this, to date none of her mahogany planking has needed to be replaced.

The current owner has had much structural work carried out, including replacing the galvanised steel floors with stainless steel replacements, and replacing the decking. In the process of renewing the deck the mast has been modified to be deck-stepped, making for more room in the cabin.

If you would like to find out more about this boat, then please contact us at Demon Yachts to have a chat.
