Hardy 25 ‘Albonita’

‘Albonita’ is a Hardy 25, built by Hardy Marine in Norfolk in 1984 (yard no 1222). In excellent condition, she was bought by the current owner in 2021, but since then has been stored in a barn whilst the owner has been carrying out a programme of checking and improving the boat. Sadly, he has decided that he is too old now to complete the few jobs that remain, and so has decided to put her up for sale.

The blue hull and white deck and cabin topsides are in good condition, with the gel coat being recently cleaned and polished. The deck has a non-slip finish. The underwater hull bottom has been epoxied and CopperCoated, ready to go afloat.

The cockpit and cabin have standing headroom. The cabin is in its original layout, providing sleeping for three adults (2 in the Vee-berth up forward). The galley has a 2-burner gas hob with stainless sink and draining-board, with shelving and storage for kitchen equipment and provisions. Hot water is provided by a gas water heater. Please note that neither the hob nor the water heater have been tested. The cabin has been fitted with new carpet.

The Jabsco heads unit has been stripped, cleaned and re-assembled, and has a pull-out basin and shower.

The cockpit has two swivel chairs, plus comfortable seating at the back, which has new cushions.

Underneath the cockpit Is a large storage locker containing shore-power cable, two boat hooks, lifebuoy, warps, fenders, spare anchor with chain and rope, mud weight etc., with room for more. The cockpit has 2 cockpit pram hoods, plus external wheelhouse canvas window covers. There are two boarding ladders which need to be fitted.

Bilges are kept dry by a new Johnson 12v bilge pump, float switch and strum box, located in the deepest part of the bilge.

All navigation and cabin lighting have been checked to be working, and there is a new mast and steaming light. The 5kg anchor and chain is controlled via an electric winch.

Propulsion and power are provided by the original diesel Yanmar 3GM30F diesel engine. This was run briefly at the time of purchase and deemed to be sound. Since then it has been turned over by hand every month. It is fresh water cooled, and the Jabsco seawater pump has been cleaned and a new impeller fitted. The Venus seawater filter has been cleaned. Two new diesel filters have been fitted, one with a water-trap. There are two 12v 85-amp batteries, currently off the boat and kept charged at the owner’s home. On board there is a Sterling 240v battery charger for use when connected to shore power.

The Sonic outboard leg has had its oil changed, three new anodes fitted, new rubber gaiters and stainless-steel clips fitted, and the leg locking mechanism cleaned, overhauled and fitted with a new release spring. The three-bladed prop is in good condition.

The few jobs that remain to be completed include:

  • The instrument panel has two gauges that need either to be replaced or have new glass fitted;
  • The starboard wooden rubbing strake (supplied) needs to be re-fitted;
  • The traditional rope rubbing strake needs to be procured and fitted (stainless steel clips are fitted);
  • The Jabsco seawater pump has not been refitted to the engine;
  • Gas hob, water heater and associated pipes need to be tested;
  • Two wooden grab-handles (provided) need to be fitted.

The boat is currently sitting on a twin-axle, braked yard trailer in good condition, and this is included in the sale.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a rugged and seaworthy boat that is easy to handle in most conditions, with just a few jobs to be completed. It is ideal for river and coastal trips with family and friends, as well as sea fishing trips (holders fitted).

Loch Long One Design no 39, 'Gean'

'Gean' is a Loch Long One Design keelboat, built in 1957 by Nunns of Waldringfield. Approximately 12 years ago she was fitted with a new coachroof, which although different in design to the original, has been accepted by the class. Since then the boat has been laid up, and is now in need of some TLC to bring her back to pristine condition. 'Gean' can be raced with the Loch Long One Design fleets on the Alde in Suffolk as well as the Clyde in Scotland. Alternatively she will make a very rewarding day-sailer for friends and family.

'Laju' a classic wooden International Dragon

Designed in 1927 for the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club by Johan Anker, the Dragon class soon established itself as an international class, with fleets across Europe and Scandinavia. The initial concept was for a Bermudan-rigged keelboat that provided rudimentary accommodation, and in this way could be used to sail and sleep on, from one regatta to another, as well as cruising for pleasure. After WWII, in 1948, the class was selected for the Olympics, and from that point onwards Dragons were built solely for racing.
However, 'Laju' was built in 1933 in Sweden and has retained the features of a pre-Olympic Dragon. In so doing she provides a very attractive cruiser to be sailed in classic yacht regattas, or simply for cruising in a boat that is a delight to sail. She is in excellent condition, having been fully restored in Devon by John McShea. You can read a bit about Laju's restoration at his website https://devoncraftsman.com/2016/11/25/just-a-little-background/
'Laju' is currently in the Aldeburgh Boatyard having her topsides and brightwork refreshed, and will be ready to sail as soon as the new season comes around! She has her own 4-wheel, braked trailer, which has been regularly serviced with new tyres fitted, as well as her own rowing tender. There is an extensive inventory.
This is a rare opportunity to own a classic, wooden yacht that sails magnificently, as all Dragons do!

'Jill' Tumlare no. 26

Here is a rare opportunity to buy a very exciting boat! She has had all the main structural work to her hull and deck completed to a very high standard, and now needs finishing off to be an exciting and beautiful classic yacht!

'Jill' is Tumlare no. 26, and is one of the batch of six Tumlaren that were the first of their class to come the UK, arriving at the Aldeburgh Yacht Club in 1935.

In Uffa Fox's Second Book, written in 1935, he described the Tumlare as 'a very advanced type of cruiser, in fact I should think she is the most advanced in the world ...'

'Jill' was built in Sweden to a high standard in Hjalmar Johannsen's yard in Gothenburg in 1935 using only very fine materials, and to illustrate this, to date none of her mahogany planking has needed to be replaced.

The current owner has had much structural work carried out, including replacing the galvanised steel floors with stainless steel replacements, and replacing the decking. In the process of renewing the deck the mast has been modified to be deck-stepped, making for more room in the cabin.

If you would like to find out more about this boat, then please contact us at Demon Yachts to have a chat.
