Meet our team

Matthew Lingley, BEng, AMRINA

Early on sailing became Matt’s life’s obsession, and through that, boatbuilding and yacht design. His first teenage, part-time, summer job in 2001 was helping out in a Brightlingsea composites workshop making parts for Tornado and other catamarans. He headed to the south coast for university, studying Yacht Design at Southampton Solent University whilst working part-time in various boatyards on the Hamble and on the East Coast. Matt took a year out to gain more hands-on experience and spent a number of months working for Peter Wilson at the Aldeburgh Boatyard, finishing a new 8-metre yacht, ‘Ganymede’, designed by Julianne Hempel, and then later working with Euan Seel for the first time on ‘Fathom’ the RWYC 17-foot class boat. When he graduated in 2009 Matt had already started working in a composites engineering and prototyping company where he stayed for two years, both engineering and project managing the build of wind and tidal energy prototypes, and even a short production run of 16m wood epoxy composite wind turbine blades. At the end of 2010 the call of working on yachts was too much and he teamed up with Euan to run Demon Yachts Ltd as we have it today. Sailing is still his passion, be it windsurfing or offshore, in gaffers, classic yachts or foiling!
